Is Manish Pandey in trouble? The answer to this question will be known soon, but these sure are tense moments for the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player.

Wittingly or unwittingly, the youngster has landed himself in an avoidable situation. A final decision on him will be taken by the governing council (GC) of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

DNA has learnt that officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL) are trying to ascertain if the hard-hitting batsman has committed any mistake to warrant action.

Last year, the GC had imposed a one-year ban on Jadeja for negotiating with other franchises while being on contract with one team.

The Pandey issue looks different from that Jadeja’s, but the Bangalore-based player would have done well for himself without a few allegations. Sources reveal that the BCCI has received complaints that Pandey’s ‘manager’ have allegedly tried to negotiate with different teams.

The veracity of this allegation could not be immediately ascertained but an informal inquiry seems to have been conducted. It was even learnt that Pandey was asked to explain his point of view to Board president Shashank Manohar in Nagpur recently.

When asked about the issue, Manohar said the matter rested with the GC. “There was no inquiry or hearing. I just had to hear his side of the story. A decision will be taken by the GC,” the BCCI president told DNA.

A couple of sides, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, were interested in hiring Pandey’s services. The batsman was reportedly interested in joining another side. Things took a different turn when the issue of ‘manager’ came up.

BCCI sources say that as per rules, the player has every right to decide which side he wants to play but in this case, the issue is if he has crossed the line. Pandey was a star performer for Bangalore but he is in the uncapped category as he’s never played for India.

The uncapped players issue has been a big controversy since the IPL auction earlier this month. And there is a feeling among some franchises that all this could have been avoided if the uncapped players, too, were thrown into the auction pool. But board officials maintain that rules are rules, whether franchises like it or not.
